With post-monsoon humidity and standing water creating optimal mosquito breeding conditions across Karachi, Awadh General Hospital’s Emergency OPD is seeing an influx of high-grade febrile illnesses including Dengue and Malaria.
Critical Warning Signs (Seek ER Care Immediately)
While uncomplicated dengue fever can be monitored on an outpatient basis, patients must be rushed to the Emergency Room if they experience any of the following:
- Severe abdominal pain or persistent vomiting.
- Bleeding gums, epistaxis (nosebleeds), or black tarry stools (melena).
- Sudden lethargy, restlessness, or cold clammy extremities.
- Platelet count plummeting below 50,000 / µL or rapid haematocrit spike.
Essential Medication Caution
NEVER TAKE NSAIDs: Medications containing Ibuprofen (Brufen), Aspirin (Disprin), or Mefenamic Acid (Ponstan) must be strictly avoided as they aggravate internal bleeding and platelet dysfunction. Only Paracetamol (500mg to 1000mg based on adult weight) is clinically safe for fever management.
Our 24/7 Diagnostic Pathology Lab provides rapid Dengue NS1 Antigen, Dengue IgG/IgM antibody, and Complete Blood Count (CBC) with platelet reporting in under 90 minutes.
